Supporting Independence, Stability, and Sustainability in Micronesia
The United States and Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and Marshall Islands negotiated 20-year agreements that provide basic services and maintain the security role provided by the United States. These COFA (Compact of Free Association) agreements were sent to Congress where they have been languishing for months.

Mission Statement
The U.S. Micronesia Council (USMiC) is dedicated to advancing the political, economic, and social interests of the Micronesian region through strategic advocacy in Washington, D.C. We work to strengthen U.S. engagement with the Freely Associated States (Federated States of Micronesia, or FSM, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau); with the U.S. territories of Guam and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan, Tinian, and Rota); and the non-aligned island nations of Nauru and Kiribati. Our mission is to ensure that Micronesian voices are heard in the halls of Congress and across U.S. government agencies, while promoting policies that support regional development, environmental resilience, and fair access to economic opportunities—both in the islands and across the broader Pacific community. USMiC is especially committed to ensuring that the economic opportunities available in North America are extended to the seven island groups of Micronesia. Above all, this effort reflects a desire to honor and reciprocate the enduring ties and deep contributions that Micronesians have made to the United States—through military service, cultural bonds, and shared democratic values.
Statement of Objectives
The U.S. Micronesia Council is committed to delivering tangible benefits to the people of Micronesia through strategic initiatives that address economic opportunity, educational advancement, and international partnership. Our key objectives include:
- College Access and Mentoring:
- Ensure that every college-bound student from the Micronesian region who seeks support receives no-cost access to a comprehensive college admissions mentoring program.
- Remote Work and Economic Development:
- Launch and scale a remote work program designed to create hundreds—and eventually thousands—of full-time, paid remote work opportunities for residents across the Micronesian islands. This initiative will focus on administrative, technical, and customer service roles accessible from home, bridging the gap between island talent and global employment markets.
- Trade, Investment, and Private Sector Support:
- Support companies in North America, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan in launching sustainable trade and investment projects in Micronesia. USMiC will serve as a connector and advocate, helping private sector partners navigate local contexts and build projects that create jobs, enhance infrastructure, and foster long-term regional prosperity.
